actually, it’s ours: in this together

Yoga practice can transport us out of the suffering of conventional reality and reveal to us a kind of indestructible personal universe, a playful spaciousness within our own mind & body – but – that – is – really – only – a – beneficial – experience – if – the yoga practice also calls us to return to the conventional, collective, shared experience of suffering, the daily realities of this planet. We have to face all the HALAHALA! In yoga mythology, halahala हलाहल is the poison that arises from the churning of the ocean of samsara in the battle between the gods and demigods (perhaps a battle of our own intentions) for Amrita, the nectar of immortality. We seek the way out of the suffering in order to get back into it, we practice and non-attach, not to escape nor disconnect from the world, but to re-turn and re-connect with greater contentment, compassion, calmness, courage, purpose. ✌️💕🚀 Music: That Day Musician: Jef 🎶 #yogawithsandi

Stepping Up

There is a Mountain
That I want to climb
And for so many years
I have exhausted myself
Walking in circles around its base
But somehow, today, something is different
Maybe I’m just tired
Of making myself dizzy
Because today I hear a voice that says,
Hey stupid!
Mountains can only be climbed
By stepping up…

Unborn Giants

Do you ever

Like you have to look up

Every word you want to use?

Like you no longer know

What a word really

Whether it really fits

The idea in your head?

Or the idea in your

In what womb do ideas grow

Before emerging

To take shape

In the world?

Can ideas become

So so so

Before ever being born

That they no longer fit

Any words

Any forms

Any framework

To express them

To dress them

To make them

Naked ideas

Only come to reality

In the realm of

Sheer sound

Where their forms

Matter less than

The Way they form

Might well be

The only vagina

For unborn giants

To enter the world

Clearwater Hudson River Revival 2018

A Festival for Live Music & Environmental Activism?

On the Hudson River?

I’ll be there.

“Inspired by Pete Seeger’s desire to clean up the river over forty years ago, Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival initially helped raise the funds to build the sloop Clearwater, which has since become a world-renowned floating classroom and a symbol of effective grassroots action. Today, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Inc. is a non-profit organization that sails at the forefront of the nation’s environmental challenges. The revenue raised by the Revival goes to support Clearwater’s numerous educational programs and its work toward environmental and social justice—as well as keeping the sloop Clearwater afloat.” ~

Join me for Free Yoga in the Park with Get Fit Bergen

Go Health & Wellness in Bergen County, New Jersey! I grew up in Bergen County and when I was looking for yoga classes as a teenager here in the 1990s, I couldn’t find any – except in someone’s basement and the class didn’t really click for me at that time.

How exciting that governments and corporations worldwide are today waking up to the valuable role that Yoga & Meditation can play in public Health and Wellness. 🌻 Especially when sustaining a Yoga practice can seem as unaffordable as sustaining a healthy diet. Why should the healthiest and most natural foods and practices be the most expensive? 🌿 I thank my local government in @bergencountynj for partnering with the @pascackvalleymc to sponsor Free Yoga in Pascack Brook County in Westwood, NJ every Wednesday night this May 5:30pm-6:30pm. I also feel fortunate to have my friend @jonesingyoga accompanying me on the magical handpan for our first class on May 2nd. 🎶 We will be sure to connect with the soft and melodious vibes of the blooming Nature all around, and therein, with our own, blooming Body, Mind, Breath, and ultimately, Shanti. ✌️ Thanks to the Community Health Improvement Program (CHIP) for this initiative. Please share the word and come on out to join us and show your support for a healthier tomorrow which starts today! Coloring & Uncoloring the Mind

Yogis, Yoginis, Musicians, and All Creative Warriors: join us on Saturday, April 7th for a special Ashtanga Yoga class and classical Indian Music workshop! We are going to have some fun learning about Coloring & Uncoloring the Mind while connecting these two ancient traditions. So honored that Sitar maestro Purbayan Chatterjee will be joining us at Playful Yogi Space! Slightly terrified to accompany him for the music workshop on Tabla, but maybe I will play better with my legs behind my head. ; ) Travellers from NYC : feel free to message me if you have transportation questions. Nearby train stop is Pearl River and we can try to help you find a lift from and to the station if needed. See you soon!
